STORY – Bengali movie 033, starring Parambrato Chattopadhyay, Swastika Mukherjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Rudraneel Ghosh, Dhruv Mukherjee, Mumtaz Sorcar was released in 2010. The movie was directed by Birsa Dasgupta and produced by Moxie Entertainments. Band ‘Chandrabindu’ scored the music in the movie. The story revolves around five musical minded friends – Shome (Parambrato), Rudra (Rudraneel), Arnab, Voodoo (Dhruv Mukherjee) and Ria (Mumtaz Sorcar) – who are desperately trying to establish their own Bangla music band they have named after the STD code of the city (Kolkata) they love – 033. But success eludes them despite the presence of dedicated mentor, Santiago, (Sabyasachi Chakraborty) whose crowded flat looks like a music museum. One day Mrinalini (Swastika Mukherjee), a lost young girl arrives from Delhi to make her graduation video on the band which till then, banked only on one old hit Rhododendron. A love-hate relationship evolves between Mrinalini and the band. But she unwittingly helps them find their identity through music created in their city of love. Once Mrinalini’s shoot is over, the band gets its act together to sing its first hit – thikana-heen badi – the home without an address, inspired by an old structure owned by Shome’s grandmother that stands on the corner of two roads but has neither name, nor number.

The final lap in this lyrical but contrived tale of unfufilled love shows two women coming together after the tragic death of the man they both loved. This story of a long-distance ‘marriage’ between a Bengali bhadra-lok from rural Bengal Snehmoy (Rahul Bose) and his Japanese pen-pal Miyage (Chigusa Takaku) suffers from an incurable disease known as Inherent Silliness. Based on a true story by Kunal Basu, this is the ultimate non-romance between two people who thoroughly deserve each other. They’re both so annoying and outdated in their naivete, you see! The couple married to each other for over 15 years never meets and barely speaks to each other on the phone a few times (talk about phoney relationships, this one takes the cake). When Miyage falls ill in Japan Snehmoy goes to the doctor in Kolkata with her medical reports. The doc’s expression when he hears why the patient can’t come personally to be examined is exactly the way we feel about this long-distance marriage.
